Case Study: Confab (virtual) 2020

Challenges

The client made the decision to switch to an entirely virtual event 6 weeks before the go-live date and brought us on with just twelve days to the launch of the event. As their Technical Director and Broadcast Partner, we were tasked with developing a comprehensive broadcast strategy to engage their almost 1,000 global attendees- all during a global pandemic. Given the limited time constraints, and unique series of world events we were operating within we had to develop a brand new, and entirely virtual way to execute a live broadcast. We utilized a variety of existing technologies that were reimagined to work together in new ways.

Execution

In addition to traditional conference elements like multiple daily keynote addresses, panel discussions, and live interviews, Confab also wanted to infuse some whimsy into the overall experience and incorporated fun elements like a Pet Show, Variety Show, and Karaoke to bring that to life- all done virtually with participants from across the globe. To execute this innovative conference experience we brought together a number of different technology platforms and unified them through a custom-designed virtual platform. This newly developed internal platform enabled us to bring in our clients’ guests with virtually no latency and provide a way for them to connect with each other and their guests in a way that made everyone involved feel as if they were still engaging in the community for which Confab has become famous. All of this was executed from a socially distanced control room with a smaller than standard crew located in Dallas, TX while we were able to work with guests from coast to coast and as far away as Australia and Germany.
